Mrs. Petersen Services Held
Memorial rites for Mrs. Henry (Minnie) Petersen, 81, of 803 1st Street, Grundy Center were held Thursday, December 23 at the Bethany Presbyterian church. Rev. Calvin W. Vanderwerf officiated at the 1:30 o'clock service. Mrs. T. J. Heronimus played organ interludes "My God and I" and "Jesus Is All the World To Me", as well as other selected numbers.
Pallbearers were James Mutch, Roger Stachour, Douglas Petersen, Kenneth Mutch, Dilman Stachour and Wilbur Petersen. Mrs. James Pieters and Mrs. Rex Hummel were floral attendants. Ushers were Ed Flater and Eugene Meester. Floyd Rouse, Joe Ross Jr. and Dale Bee furnished cars for the family. Following the committal service at the Colfax Center church cemetery family and friends returned to the church for fellowship and lunch. A memorial fund has been established.
Mrs. Petersen fell at her home and fractured her hip. She was taken to the Allen Memorial hospital where she died on December 16.
She was born August 11, 1895 in Lincoln township, Grundy county, Iowa, the daughter of John R. and Lana Schaa Pabst. She spent her early life on the family farm where she was born. Later the family purchased the O. E. Beckman farm in Palermo township where she lived until she was an adult. She had been a member of the Bethany Presbyterian church since November 3, 1916, and had taught Sunday School many years. On March 9, 1935 she was united in marriage to Henry Petersen in Webster City, Iowa by Rev. H. F. Sinning. They lived on the Petersen farm nine years, moving to Cedar Falls in 1944. On August 7, 1958 they returned to make their home in Grundy Center. She had spent 40 years of her life on farms in Grundy county.
Mrs. Petersen was preceded in death by three brothers, two sisters, two infant grandchildren and one infant great-grandchild.
She is survived by her husband, Henry; one son, Ubbie Petersen, and two daughters, Mrs. John (Emma) Stachour and Mrs. Harold (Henrietta) Mutch all of Grundy Center, also three sisters, Mrs. Marie Stevens, Grundy Center, Mrs. Donald (Emma) Stubbs of Bayard and Mrs. Bernard (Viola) Wiarda of Lodi, Calif. There are seven grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
