John R. Stowe Is Dead at Age of 78

John R. Stowe, 78, of 1729 Rainbow drive, died Friday at 4:15 p.m. at Sartori Memorial hospital, where he had been since suffering a stroke of paralysis Sept. 24.

John Robert Stowe was born Nov. 8, 1863, son of Reuben and Nancy Draper Stowe. On Feb. 8, 1893, he married Alice F. Scott at Dairyville, Ia. She preceded him in death Jan. 13, 1939.

The couple lived on a farm near Stout, Ia., until 1915, when they retired and moved to Cedar Falls. Since his wife's death Mr. Stowe made his home with a daughter, Mrs. Leo Jamerson, 1729 Rainbow drive.

He was a member of the First Methodist church in this city.

Surviving are three children; Mrs. Edna Wilson, Allison, Ia.; Arthur G. Stowe, Huntington, W. Va.; and Mrs. Jamerson. Also living are six grandchildren and one brother, C. O. Stowe, Waterloo. Four brothers, three sisters and one grandson preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be held Monday at 3 p.m. from Dahl's funeral home, with Dr. Earle A. Baker, pastor of the First Methodist church, officiating. Burial will be in Fairview cemetery.
