Sgt. Wallace Lindaman Killed in Germany

Sgt. Wallace C. Lindaman, the only son of Mr. and Mrs. Jake H. Lindaman, living north of Wellsburg, was killed in action in the German theatre of war on April 16. A message was received from the government Friday telling of his death.

Sgt. Lindaman was connected with the 1st Army in Btry. B-13th F.A. Obsn, Bn. He was inducted into the army July 9, 1942 and went to Jefferson Barracks, Mo. and from there was transferred to Ft. Sill, Okla., where he received most of his training in the 13th F.A. Obsn. Bn. After his training at Ft. Sill he went to Ft. Bragg, North Carolina and then to Camp Pickett, Virginia. He left for overseas soon after Thanksgiving in 1943, going to England. He participated in the invasion of France, going through France, Belgium and into Germany.

Sgt. Lindaman was a graduate of the Ackley high school and before entering the service was engaged in farming with his father. He was 25 years old March 19, 1945.

Besides his father and mother he is survived by two sisters, Irene and Betty. His father was a veteran of World War I. His fiancee, Eileen Bessman, is a registered nurse at the Deaconess Hospital in Marshalltown, Iowa.

Wallace Lindaman Memorial Service Scheduled Sunday

Memorial services will be Sunday, at the Evangelical Reformed church northwest of Wellsburg for Sgt. Wallace Lindaman, 25, who was killed in action in the German Theater of War Apr. 16. The services will be in charge of Rev. G. Hesse, pastor of the church.

Sergeant Lindaman was with the First Army in Battery B. 13th Field Artillery at the time of his death. He was inducted July 9, 1942, and received his training at Ft. Sill, Okla., Ft. Bragg, N. C., and Camp Pickett, Va.

He went overseas in November, 1943, landing in England, and participated in the invasion of France, going through France, Belgium, and Germany.

Sergeant Lindaman, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jake Lindaman, was born and raised in this community, north of Wellsburg. He was a graduate of Ackley high school and before entering service was engaged in farming with his father.

His father is a veteran of World War I. He is survived by his parents and two sisters.
