LaVine Winters, 77, of Alden, Iowa, passed away Monday, August 11, 2008, at the Israel Hospice House, Ames, Iowa. Funeral services for LaVine Winters will be 11:00 am Friday, August 15th at the Linn's Funeral Chapel, Iowa Falls. Private family burial will be held at a later date at the Alden Cemetery. A time of visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 pm Thursday, August 14th at the Linn's Funeral Home, Iowa Falls. Memorials may be directed to the family c/o United Bank and Trust, P. O. Box 68, Alden, Iowa, 50006.
LaVine Darlene Harms was born July 30, 1931, on her parents farm near Wellsburg, Iowa, the daughter of Hermine [Mayland] and Ibeling G. "Ebe" Harms. She attended country grade school and graduated from the Wellsburg High School with the class of 1949. On August 3, 1951 she was united in marriage to Vernon Dale Winters at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Wellsburg, Iowa. LaVine worked as a retail clerk for Schager Produce, Alden, Iowa and Alden Apparel, Alden, Iowa. She enjoyed spending time with friends and family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Wellsburg, Iowa.
LaVine Winters is survived by two daughters: Verona [Larry] Parr of Ames, Iowa, Darla Winters of Ankeny, Iowa; five grandchildren: Jason [Amanda] Ellingson of Ames, Iowa, Jennie [Jim Rush] Ellingson of Omaha, Nebraska, Chris Ellingson of Van Meter, Iowa, Angie [Pete] Simonson of Ankeny, Iowa, Ryan [Tiffany] Jimenez of Huxley, Iowa; seven great grandchildren: Grace, Elle and Sam Ellingson of Ames, Iowa, Jaiden and Jerze Simonson of Ankeny, Iowa, Brayton and Brady Jimenez of Huxley, Iowa; and one sister: Velma Copeland of Iowa Falls, Iowa, and brother: Eldon [Sheryl] Harms of Wellsburg, Iowa, and a niece: Janet [Clint] Schutt and their children: Matt, Travis, Brooke, and Ashley of Alden, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents: Ibeling and Hermine Harms; her husband: Vernon Winters; and one sister: Lorraine Ersland.
