ARENDS, Edward 1927-2009

Edward Arends, 81, of Ackley, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, September 22, 2009, at the Franklin General Hospital. Funeral services for Edward Arends will be 2:00 pm Thursday, September 24th at the Ackley United Methodist Church, 416 Hardin Street, Ackley, Iowa. A time of visitation will be one hour before services at the church on Thursday. Burial will be at the Oakwood Cemetery, Ackley, Iowa. The Linn's Funeral Homes Ackley Chapel has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Edward Mervin Arends was born October 15, 1927, the son of Gertrude [Bulten] and Fred E. Arends on his parents farm in Butler County, Iowa. He served with the United States Army in 1946 and the Army Air Corps when it changed to the United States Air Force and during the Korean Conflict.

On February 20, 1954, Ed was united in marriage to Anna Mae Clawson at the Evangelical United Brethren Church in Ackley, Iowa. To this union three children were born: Debra, David, and Darwin. Ed farmed and had a dairy milking herd in Franklin County for many years. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Ackley, Iowa.

Edward M. Arends is survived by his daughter: Debra [Dennis] Miller of Ackley, Iowa, Darwin [Dulci] Arends of Ackley, Iowa; six grandchildren: Denise [Trevor] Willems of Ackley, Iowa, Daniel [Megan] Miller of Ackley, Iowa, Jessica Arends of Ankeny, Iowa, Jennifer Arends of Cedar Falls, Iowa, Jeremy Arends of Ackley, Iowa, Levi Arends of Ackley, Iowa; five great grandchildren: Kylie, Collin, and Blake Willems of Ackley, Iowa, Tate and Denver Miller of Ackley, Iowa; and two sisters: Alice Winters of Iowa Falls, Iowa, Bernice Harrenstein of Wellsburg, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Fred and Gertrude Arends; his wife Anna Mae Arends; his son: David Arends; and his twin brother: Edwin Arends.
