Vernon Willms, age 87, of Ackley, died on Sunday, November 22, 2009 at his home in Ackley. Services are 1:30 P.M. Wednesday at the First Presbyterian Church in Ackley with visitation Tuesday from 4:00-7:00 P.M. at the Sietsema Funeral Home in Ackley. Burial will be at Northlawn Cemetery in Iowa Falls. Full military rites provided by the Elliott Keninger Post #252 of Ackley

Vernon M. Willms, age 87 of Ackley Iowa passed away at home on November 22, 2009. He was born in Stout Iowa on September 10, 1922. His parents were Henry Willms and Sema Karsjens. Vernon attended Bradford Community Schools before becoming employed by Roche's Lumberyard in Bradford. On Dec 26, 1942 he entered the Army Air Force where he served in the South Pacific as a cryptographer until his discharge in December of 1945.

In June 1946 he was united in marriage to Velma Lord at her parent's home in Bradford Iowa. He worked for Mulford Construction for a short time, then began employment with Farmer's Coop Elevator Co; first in Bradford, then ended his 38 year career in Ackley. Vernon was a long time active member of the First Presbyterian Church where he served as an elder and trustee. He was also a 63-year member of the American Legion. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, short trips and most especially spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife Velma, children Vicki Harken and husband Arlen, Vaughn Willms and wife Elaine, Vince Willms and wife Cathy, Van Willms and wife Deb , 4 sisters; Christine Tripp, Evelyn Murra, LaVelle Richman, LaVonne Off, and one brother-in-law, 19 grandchildren, and 27 great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, one son Verlynn, one daughter in law, Lynda and 3 brother-in-laws.
