Clarence James Eiklenborg, age 70, of Aplington, Iowa, was born February 7, 1938, the son of Joe and Etta Reiter Eiklenborg at home, near Fern in Grundy County, Iowa. He received his education in the Aplington School.
Clarence worked as a hired man for farmers before marriage. He married Marjory Ann De Boer on February 5, 1960, in her parentsí home in Wellsburg, Iowa. The couple then made their home in Aplington. Clarence worked for Waterloo Register, then as a machinist for Universal Industries in Waterloo for 28 years, retiring in 2000.
Clarence attended the First Congregational Church in Parkersburg. He enjoyed helping his sons with their race cars and he liked to spend time restoring antique cars and tractors. Clarence enjoyed his dog, Boo, hunting and especially loved having fun with their grandchildren.
Clarence died Tuesday, December 2, 2008, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home in Waterloo Iowa, of natural causes. He was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Jerald Eiklenborg.
Clarence is survived by his wife, Marjory Eiklenborg, Aplington, Iowa; one son, David (Melissa) Eiklenborg, Aplington, Iowa; two daughters, Joyce (David) Helm, Grinnell, Iowa; Sharon (Daniel) Abbott, Van Horne, Iowa; daughter-in-law, Leann Eiklenborg, Earlham, Iowa; six grandchildren, Jason, Jessica, Joshua, Amanda, Jared and Emerald; and one brother, Norman (Sylvia) Eiklenborg, Aplington, Iowa.
Funeral Services will be 1:30 p.m., Friday, December 5, 2008, at the First Congregational Church with burial in the Oak Hill Cemetery, both in Parkersburg.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., Thursday, at the Redman-Schwartz Funeral Home in Parkersburg and one hour before services at the church.
