Funeral Services will be 1:30 p.m. Monday, October 6, 2008, at the Christian Reformed Church with burial in Oak Hill Cemetery, both in Parkersburg.

Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Sunday at the Redman-Schwartz Funeral Home in Parkersburg and one hour prior to services at the church on Monday.

James David Aswegen, age 69, of Parkersburg, Iowa was born the son of David and Bessie (Curtis) Aswegen on February 26, 1939, Butler County, near Clarksville, Iowa. He primarily attended the Aplington and Ackley Schools and earned his G.E.D. while serving in the United States Marines from 1957 – 1959.

On June 24, 1983, James was united in marriage with Marjorie Kathryn Luppen at the Christian Reformed Church in Parkersburg. They lived in the Parkersburg area where Jim worked at John Deere in Waterloo for awhile and later at Farmland Best. In 1968, Jim became disabled in a motorcycle accident. During the summer months Jim enjoyed helping at the Butler County Fair selling admission tickets. He also worked at the Waterloo Register and Unverferth in Shell Rock, Iowa for a time. On August 8, 2008, Jim became a resident at the Maple Manor Village in Aplington.

Jim was a former member of the Aplington Presbyterian Church and became a member of the Christian Reformed Church after marriage. Jim was a long time member of the Aplington AMVETS. He enjoyed playing cards with his family and friends. Jim had a good sense of humor and liked to play jokes on others. Through the years he collected cactuses, he enjoyed feeding the birds, gardening and he especially enjoyed his asparagus plants. James died Thursday, October 2, 2008, at the Maple Manor Village in Aplington. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Fran VanHorn.

Jim is survived by his wife, Marjorie of Parkersburg, Iowa; and a sister, Dorothy (Lawrence) Graves of Dike, Iowa; three sisters-in-law, Henrietta Curtis of Forsyth, Missouri, Frances Luppen of Parkersburg, Iowa and Caroline Troutner of Waterloo, Iowa and many nieces and nephews.
