Doris Marie Petersen, 87, of Grundy Center, Iowa, formerly of Dike, Iowa, died Tuesday, August 19, 2008, at Maple Manor Nursing Home in Aplington, Iowa. Funeral Services will be 11:00 A.M. Friday, August 22, 2008 at the Fredsville Evangelical Lutheran Church, rural Cedar Falls. Pastor Don Feuerhak will officiate. Burial will be in the Church Cemetery. Visitation will be on Thursday, August 21, 2008 from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at the Engelkes-Abels Funeral and Cremation Services- Dike Chapel, Dike, Iowa. Memorials may be directed to the Dike Public Library.

Doris was born August 25, 1920 in Waterloo, Iowa the daughter of Jens Anton and Kirsten Sofie “Katie” (Sorensen) Jensen. She received her education at country school and graduated from Dike High School in 1937.

On October 27, 1940 she was united in marriage to Roger William Petersen at the Fredsville Evangelical Lutheran Church. Roger passed away on June 20, 1997. Doris lived in the Dike area her entire married life and moved to Grundy Center in 1997. She was a lifelong member of the Fredsville Evangelical Lutheran Church. She especially liked to help make quilts and chrismons with the church women.

Survivors include 2 daughters; Janet and her husband Jarvis Follette of Vale, South Dakota and Pauline and her husband Kay Ash of Parkersburg, Iowa; 2 sons: Merlyn and his wife Catherine Petersen of Dike, Iowa and Keene Petersen of Dike, Iowa 13 grandchildren: Ronda, Todd and Tracee, Paul, Dan and Molly, Jodi, Ladea, Tyann and Ryan, and Levi, Lane and Echo; 25 great grandchildren and 2 step great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren; and a sister: Myrtle and her husband Eldon Paulsen of Yuma, Arizona.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Roger; twin sons: Floyd and Lloyd; 2 sons-in-law: Clinton Follette and Jim Itzen; and a great granddaughter: Trandilyn Petersen.
