-----------------------------------------------

SMITH--Died, at her home in Grundy Center Tuesday morning, February 17, 1885, Mrs. Eliza Smith, wife of Solomon Smith, aged 73 years.

Deceased maiden name was Eliza Emree. She was born in Dunausbush, New York, May 5th, 1813, where the early years of her life were passed. Dec. 29, 1831, she united in marriage with Mr. Solomon Smith who survives her. In 1856 the family came to Blackhawk county and settled on a farm and there resided until about four years ago when the father and mother, now grown old, came to this place to pass the remaining days of their lives. Deceased was the mother of 14 children, ten girls and four boys, ten of whom, eight girls and two boys, are living. She was a woman of remarkable industry and perseverance, and during the pioneer days in Blackhawk county she bore the duties of a pioneer's wife with more than ordinary fortitude. Her work is done at last, and she rests form earth's troubles and cares.

Card of Thanks.

The undersigned would extend their heartfelt thanks to the friends who so kindly and carefully helped to take care of our mother, Mrs. Soloman Smith, during her sickness, and assisted us in laying her in her last resting place. May God's choicest blessing rest upon you all.
Soloman Smith and Family
