YOUNG MOTHER TAKES POISON

Grundy Center, July 17.—A veil of sadness passed over this community Friday when it became known that Mrs. L. M. Hawn had committed suicide by drinking a quantity of carbolic acid. The rash act was committed about 11 o'clock and about 12 o'clock she was dead, notwithstanding that medical attention was soon at hand and the doctors carried into execution all skill of their profession.

Mrs. Hawn was induced to commit the rash act because of the death of her eldest son. Glenn, who passed away of cerefro-spinal meningitis on April 13th after but a few hours of sickness. She had grieved over this son's death until it seemed she had an aversion for her other two sons and for the past three weeks had been failing very rapidly both mentally and physically. She had fallen away in weight over forty pounds in the few weeks.

Mrs. Hawn was 37 years old.
