Mrs. Meyer, 88, Dies At Area Hospital

Mrs. Nettie Meyer passed away around 9:30 Tuesday morning, April 1, 1980, at the Marshalltown Area Community Hospital in Marshalltown due to complications of a stroke suffered on the previous Tuesday, March 25th. She reached the age of 88 years, 11 months and 29 days.

Funeral services were held on Friday, April 4, 1980 at 1:30 p.m. at the Second Christian Reformed Church. Pastor John H. Elenbaas officiated. Mrs. Harold Okones and Mrs. Ivan Slifer sang two duet numbers. Mrs. Clarence Beecroft was organist. Pallbearers were Rodney Deters, Vernon Eckhoff, Max Meyer, Lynn Meyer, Wayne Hoodjer and Anthony Ackerman. Interment was held in the Wellsburg Reformed Church cemetery. Doyen Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

She was born in Hardin County, west of Wellsburg, on April 2, 1891, the daughter of Jibbe and Neeske (Wessels) Ross. She attended the rural school in the area and when the family moved to Renville, Minnesota she continued her education there. On January 1, 1917, she was married to Nanka Ackerman. He passed away on April 20, 1920. On July 20, 1925 she was married to Wiebe H. Meyer. They lived on a farm south of Wellsburg until 1940 at which time they moved to Wellsburg to make their home. Mr. Meyer passed away February 9, 1949.

Mrs. Meyer was a long-time member of the Second Christian Reformed Church having made profession of faith on August 30, 1931. She was a member of the Willing Workers Society of the church.

She was a faithful member of the Amvets Auxiliary receiving an award for 25 years of Volunteer Service at the Veteran's Hospital in Des Moines.

Preceding her in death were: her parents, her first and her second husband; 2 sons, Lawrence and Lewis Ackerman; two daughters, June Murial and Marjorie Elaine Meyer; one step-son, George Ackerman; one step-daughter, (Clara), Mrs. Milton DeNeui, six sisters and two brothers.

Those left to mourn her passing are: two daughters, (Nellie), Mrs. William Deters of Eldora and (Florence), Mrs. George Eckhoff of Wellsburg; three step-children, Harm C. Meyer of Wellsburg; Odie W. Meyer of Marshalltown; (Gertrude), Mrs. John R. Hoodjer of Wellsburg; a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Vera Ackerman of Iowa Falls; a former daughter-in-law, Mrs. Jane Maas of Wellsburg; a son-in-law, Milton DeNeui of Shell Rock; 24 grandchildren; 37 great grandchildren; 11 great-great grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.

Our heartfelt thanks to each one who expressed their sympathy following the loss of our mother and grandmother. Thank you to Pastor Elenbaas for his comforting message, to those who furnished music, for memorials, flowers and attendants, for food brought in and to the Willing Workers who served. We also would like to thank everyone who remembered our dear one during her illness and to the Wellsburg Ambulance for their service. All was deeply appreciated. The Family of Mrs. Nettie Meyer.
