Funeral Services For Henry R. Schafer Held Saturday p.m.

Henry R. Schafer, son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Schafer, was born November 9, 1869, in Shiloh Township, 2 1/2 miles northwest of Wellsburg. He attended the rural school in the area. On December 16, 1891 he was united in marriage with Martha Bernadena Deters by the Rev. H. J. Bode, and the couple made their home on the farm northwest of Wellsburg. Mrs. Schafer passed away in September 1928. In the fall of 1936, Mr. Schafer moved to Wellsburg.

He was a faithful member of the First Christian Reformed church and at one time he served as a Deacon on the church consistory.

He enjoyed good health all his life, until recently when he started to fail after having several strokes. He passed away around 7:30 a.m. Wednesday morning, Feb. 7, 1962, at the age of 92 years, 2 months, and 28 days.

Those left to mourn his death are his five daughters and one son: Tena of Wellsburg, Thomas of Wellsburg, (Bertha) Mrs. Charles Meints of Wellsburg, (Jennie) Mrs. Herman Beninga of Holland, (Alena) Mrs. Ben Riekena of Grundy Center, and (Henrietta) Mrs. John Kruse of Wellsburg; nine grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were his parents, his wife, three children, one son in infancy, one daughter Jennie at the age of two, one son Richard at the age of 8, one infant grandson, two brothers and three sisters.

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. at the Doyen Funeral Home and at 1:30 p.m. in the First Christian Reformed Church with the Rev. Bernard Visscher officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Music was furnished by a men's quartet composed of Claus G. Primus, Willis Bakker, Alfred Eiten and Harvey Eiten. Miss Elizabeth Eekhoff was at the organ and Mrs. Claus G. Primus was pianist.

In charge of the flowers were Mrs. Dick Riekena and Mrs. Alvin Blythe. Pallbearers were Harlan Bening, Bernard Beninga, Larry Kruse, Richard A. Schafer, Richard Schafer and Donald Main.
