Mrs. Coert A. Bunger Dies At County Hospital
Mrs. Coert A. (Etta) Bunger passed away around 8:30 a.m. Saturday at the Long Term Care Unit of the Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center following a lingering illness. She reached the age of 82 years, 7 months and 23 days.
Funeral services for Mrs. Bunger were held on Tuesday afternoon, October 2, 1979 at 1:30 p.m. at the Wellsburg Reformed Church. Clergymen who officiated were Rev. John Ailts and Rev. Gideon Wolbrink. Mrs. John Olthoff and Mrs. Edwin Behrends sang two duet numbers. Miss Marcella Neessen was organist. Mrs. Kenny Bunger and Mrs. Henry O. Nederhoff were flower attendants. Pall bearers were Henry O. Nederhoff, George Nederhoff, Bernard Reents, Harold O. Fischer, John Brower, and Ed Brower. Interment was held in the Wellsburg Reformed Church cemetery. Doyen Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
She was born on a farm in Grundy county on February 6, 1897, the daughter of Conrad and Grace (Winterboer) Brower, and attended the rural school in the area. On September 15, 1915, she was united in marriage to Claus Behrends. They lived in various places in Butler and Grundy counties before moving to Cedar Falls to make their home. Mr. Behrends passed away on January 23, 1946. On January 10, 1951, she was united in marriage to Coert A. Bunger. Following their marriage they lived on the Bunger home farm south of Wellsburg. In 1960 they retired from the farm and moved to Wellsburg to make their home.
Mrs. Bunger was a member of the Wellsburg Reformed Church having joined by letter of transfer on February 8, 1955.
Preceding her in death were: her parents, her first husband, one daughter (Grace), Mrs. Evert Bleeker, Sr.; five brothers, John, Henry, Dick, Peter and Cuno Brower; two sisters, Mertha Meinders and Altja Johnson.
Survivors include: her husband, Coert A. Bunger; three sons and one daughter, Claus Behrends of Muscatine; Marlin Behrends of Waterloo; (Margaret), Mrs. Willard Gifford of Sioux City; Warren Behrends of Waterloo; 10 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; 1 brother, Harm Brower of Watertown, South Dakota; one sister, Mrs. Hattie Poppen of Holland and many other relatives and friends.
