Coert Bunger Laid To Rest Here Monday

Funeral services for Coert A. Bunger were held on Monday, September 19, at 1:30 p.m. at the Wellsburg Reformed Church. Pastor Roger Huitink officiated at the services. Music was given by a ladies duet, Mrs. John Olthoff and Mrs. Edwin Behrends. Marcella Neessen was organist.

Flower attendants were Mrs. Kenny Bunger and Mrs. Bernard Reents.

Pallbearers were George Nederhoff, Marvin Nederhoff, Arthur Nederhoff, Bernard Reents, Kenny Bunger, and Marlen Berghuis.

The interment service was held in the Wellsburg Reformed Church cemetery. Doyen Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Coert A. Bunger passed away Friday afternoon, September 16, at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center due to complications of advanced age. He reached the age of 81 years, 11 months, and 29 days.

He was born on a farm in Shiloh Township, southwest of Wellsburg on September 17, 1901, the son of Aldrich C. and Gertie (Eiten) Bunger. He received his education in the Shiloh No. 8 rural school in the area. On January 10, 1951, he was married to Etta Behrends. Following their marriage they lived on the Bunger homeplace farm south of Wellsburg. In 1960 they retired from the farm and moved to Wellsburg to make their home. Mrs. Bunger passed away on September 29, 1979. He continued to make his home in Wellsburg until about 3 years ago, at which time he became a resident of the Long Term Care Unit of the Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center.

Mr. Bunger was a member of the Wellsburg Reformed Church having joined by letter of transfer on February 8, 1955.

Preceding him in death were his parents, his wife, Etta; three sisters, Mrs. Ben (Gertie) Eiten, Mrs. Odie H. (Eita) Nederhoff, Mrs. John (Tillie) Reents; and one step-daughter, Mrs. Evert (Grace) Bleeker.

Survivors include one step-daughter and three step-sons, Claus Behrends of Muscatine, Marlin Behrends of Reinbeck, Mrs. Willard (Margaret) Gifford of Sioux City, Warren Behrends of Waterloo; 10 step-grandchildren; 10 step-great-grandchildren; one brother, Lambert A. Bunger of Wellsburg and many other relatives and friends.
