W'burg Merchant's Funeral Saturday

Lewis Ackerman, 46, owner of Boeke's Rexall Store at Wellsburg, died at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Allen Memorial Hospital, where he underwent brain surgery June 1.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Doyen Funeral Home, and at 2 p.m. at the Wellsburg Reformed Church. Burial will be in the Shiloh Township cemetery.

Survivors include his widow, Jane, six children, William Kienzle of Ames, Mrs. Roger Gast of Wellsburg, and Sandra, Joni, Steven and Miekka, all at home; his mother, Mrs. Nettie Meyer, Wellsburg; two sisters, Mrs. William Deters of Eldora and Mrs. George Eckhoff, Wellsburg, and one brother, Lawrence Ackerman, Iowa Falls.

Also surviving are two half-sisters, Mrs. Milton DeNeui of Shell rock and Mrs. John Hoodjer, Wellsburg, and two half-brothers, Harm C. Meyer of Wellsburg and Odie Meyer, Marshalltown.

Lewis Ackerman's Funeral Saturday At W'burg Church

Funeral services for Lewis M. Ackerman, 46, were held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Doyen Funeral Home and at 2:00 p.m. at the Reformed Church. Rev. Gideon Wolbrink officiated.

Music was furnished by Mrs. Irwin Abels and Mrs. Douglas Geerdes who sang two duet numbers accompanied by Miss Marcella Neessen, organist. Mrs. Elwood Doyen and Mrs. Richard Ross were flower attendants.

Pall bearers were Jake G. Lindaman, Delbert J. Lindaman, Eldon Huisman, Gordon Junker, Vernon Penning, and Laurence Lutterman.

Lewis Miles Ackerman passed away at the Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo around 1 o'clock Tuesday afternoon, June 14, due to complications following brain surgery, which was performed on June 1st.

Lewis was born February 21, 1920, in Nihill, Montana, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Ackerman. He reached the age of 46 years, 3 months, and 23 days. At an early age he and his family moved to a farm near Wellsburg. He attended the Wellsburg Public School, and was graduated from Wellsburg High School in 1937.

On February 21, 1962, he was united in marriage to Jane Kienzle. They made their home in Wellsburg following their marriage. Since 1937 he was employed at Boeke Rexall Store and in 1964 took over this business, and continued up till the time of his passing away. He was active in all of the community affairs, and will be greatly missed by all of his family and friends.

Those who preceded him in death were his father, Fred Ackerman, his step-father, W. H. Meyer, 1 brother, George, who passed away in 1928 at the age of 22, and 2 sisters in infancy.

Those left to mourn his passing are his wife, Jane; 6 children: William Kienzle of Ames; (Mary) Mrs. Roger Gast of Wellsburg; Sandra, Joan, Steven, and Miekka Kienzle of Wellsburg; 3 grandchildren; his mother, Mrs. Nettie Meyer of Wellsburg; 2 sisters, (Nellie) Mrs. William Deters of Eldora; (Florence) Mrs. George Eckhoff of Wellsburg; 1 brother, Lawrence Ackerman of Iowa Falls; 2 step-sisters and 2 step-brothers, Harm C. Meyer of Wellsburg; (Clara) Mrs. Milton DeNeui of Shell Rock; Odie W. Meyer of Marshalltown; (Gertrude) Mrs. John Hoodjer, Jr. of Wellsburg, and a host of other relatives and friends.
