Heart Failure Claims Life Of Mrs. Eckhoff
Mrs. Florence Eckhoff passed away Sunday afternoon, February 22, at the Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines due to heart failure. She had been taken there earlier in the day for treatment. She reached the age of 67 years, 10 months and 12 days.
She was born in Nihill, Montana, on April 10, 1913, the daughter of N.F. and Beredina (Ross) Ackerman. At an early age she and her family moved to the Wellsburg area where she received her education in the Wellsburg school. On January 5, 1933, she was united in marriage to George J. Eckhoff in Wellsburg at the Second Christian Reformed Church parsonage by the Rev. Edward Boeve. Following their marriage they lived in the Dike area for two years and then moved back to Wellsburg where they continued to make their home.
She was baptized in the Presbyterian Church in Nihill, Montana. On September 1, 1935 she became a member of the Lincoln Center Christian Reformed Church by confession of faith and then on December 14, 1937 transferred her membership to the Second Christian Reformed Church of Wellsburg.
Florence was engaged in the restaurant business for many years and later was a sales clerk at Lindaman's Super Market. At the present time she was a sales clerk at Mike's Super Market.
Preceding her in death were: her parents, three brothers, George, Lawrence and Lewis Ackerman and her step-parents, Weibe and Nettie Meyer.
Survivors include: her husband, George J Eckhoff; a daughter, Mrs. Gary (Eunice) Frerichs of Clear Lake; a son, Vernon Eckhoff of Ardmore, Oklahoma; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. William (Nellie) Deters of Eldora; two step-brothers, Harm C Meyer of Wellsburg; Odie H Meyer of Marshalltown; one step-sister, Mrs. John (Gertrude) Hoodjer of Wellsburg and many other relative and friends.
Funeral services for Mrs. George (Florence) Eckhoff were held Wednesday, February 25, 1981 at 1:30 p.m. at the Second Christian Reformed Church. Pastor John H. Elenbaas officiated. Mrs. Clarence Beecroft provided organ music and also accompanied Mrs. Harold Okones and Mrs. Ivan Slifer as they sang two selections. Mrs. Myles Meyer and Mrs. David Taffinder were flower attendants. Pall bearers were Rodney Deters, Ronald Deters, Dale Walton, Anthony Ackerman, Byron Ruter and Leslie Hoodjer. Interment was held at the Shiloh cemetery in Wellsburg. Doyen Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
