Obituary

Grietje Van Deest, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Van Deest, was born near Freeport, Ill. on February 17, 1873. At the age of 10 years she came with her parents to live near Holland, in Colfax township.

On May 3, 1893 she was united in marriage to Hemmo Deters, and the couple set up housekeeping on a farm in German township. Mr. Deters passed away on September 6, 1936.

Only recently, because of her age and illness, she made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Peter H. Nederhoff, where she died last Thursday at the age of 84 years, 5 months and 28 days.

Survivors include six children: Adolph, Bertha, Hemmo, Mrs. Peter H. Nederhoff, William, and Mrs. Jake A. Geerdes, all of Wellsburg; also 9 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

Two sisters and two brothers also survive. They are Mrs. Effie Meyer, Mrs. E. E. Knock and Ben Van Deest of Grundy Center and John Van Deest of Albert Lea, Minn.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and four infant children.
