OLD RESIDENT DIES AFTER LONG ILLNESS

Mrs. Adolph Van Deest Died at Her Home Last Saturday

Mrs. Adolph Van Deest died at the family home about seven miles northwest of Grundy last Saturday following a long illness. She had been confined to her bed for more than a year. Infirmities due to old age was the cause of her death.

Mrs. Gepke Van Deest, nee Tempel, was born Sept. 18th 1844, in Weener, Netherlands. With her parents she came to this country settling near Forreston, Ill. In 1865 she was united in marriage to Mr. Adolph Van Deest. This union was blessed with 9 children, two of whom preceded her in death.

The family moved from Illinois to Iowa in 1884 and settled on the farm 6 miles northwest of Grundy Center and remained her home until several months ago, when she was removed to her son's home, Ben Van Deest, where she received loving care until her end, which came February 14th.

She was a faithful member of the Colfax Presbyterian church.

She leaves to mourn her departure the seven children, four sons, William, Behrend, John and Herberts, and the three daughters, Mrs. Greitje Deters, Wellsburg, Mrs. Anna Knock, Grundy Center, and Mrs. Gepke Meyer, Holland, 33 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren, all living in this county.

Interment took place Tuesday of this week in the Presbyterian Cemetery followed by a service in the church, conducted by Rev. J. E. Drake.

The relatives attending the funeral from a distance were: Mr. and Mrs. Daniels and Mrs. B. Busker from Forreston, Ill.; Mr. and Mrs. Wemerling, South Dakota, and A. Knock, Harris, Iowa.
