EILDERTS, VANDERWERF, LINDAMAN

Sucela Eilderts, 95, of Grundy Center, died October 1 at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital Long Term Care Unit in Grundy Center. Funeral services were October 4 at St. Peter's United Church of Christ in rural Wellsburg. Burial followed in the church cemetery. A memorial fund has been established.

Sucela Vanderwerf Eilderts was born September 27, 1908 in German Township Grundy County, the daughter of Casjen Vanderwerf and Simpke (Lindaman) Vanderwerf. She grew up on a farm north of Wellsburg and attended country school at German #6 through the 8th grade.

On February 12, 1935 she was united in marriage to Koert Eilderts at her parent's home. They farmed in the Grundy and Franklin county areas until retirement on the acreage just east of Ackley. Sucela was a homemaker and a life-long member of the St. Peter's United Church of Christ in rural Wellsburg. She was a Sunday School teacher and Superintendent for many years, and a faithful member of the Women's Guild and of the Gleaners. She was devoted to her church, her family and friends. She loved flowers and grew many. She had a quick wit, sense of humor and a smile that all enjoyed. On August 28, 1995 Sucela became a resident of the Long Term Care Unit of the Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center.

Sucela was preceded in death by her husband Koert on November 7, 1995, her parents, four brothers, William, Peter, John and Casjen; five sisters, Hattie, Mary, Ida, Anna and Edtjadena (Edna), a son, Bernard Eilderts; a grandson, Mark Eilderts; and two grandchildren in infancy, Karen Jo and Gary Lynn Eilderts.

Survivors include her son, Wendell Eilderts and wife Marie of Hampton, twin daughters, Marilyn Ubben of Aplington and Carolyn Stahl and husband Larry of Holland; daughter-in-law, LaVonne Eilderts of Grundy Center; 17 grandchildren, and 20 great-grandchildren.
