Willis B. Grimmius, 79, of Grundy Center, Iowa, died Wednesday November 8, 2006, at the Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo, Iowa.

Willis Ben Grimmius was born June 17, 1927, in Palermo Township of Grundy County. He was the son of Ben and Emma (Stoehr) Grimmius. Willis attended Palermo #7 School and graduated from Grundy Center High School in 1944. He farmed from the time that he was a boy, except for a year spent in the Army at the end of WWII. On June 24, 1947, Willis was united in marriage to Louise Calton. They started their married life on a farm a mile and a half southwest of Grundy Center where they lived until they moved to town in 1974. Willis and Louise were married for fifty-nine years. Louise died on March 15, 2006, and Willis continued to make Grundy Center his home. Willis was a member of the First Baptist Church in Grundy Center where he served as trustee for many years. He was also a member of 4-H, the Farm Bureau, and the I.O.O.F. Willis enjoyed shelling corn for over sixty years, and quite often could be found on his backhoe digging dirt. He continued to farm to the end, working with his son Dale and son-in-law Ron Flater as a part of Wilina Farms, Inc. He left us with many footprints, showing his devotion to the land and good stewardship.

He is survived by three children: Eileen and her husband Ron Flater of Grundy Center, Iowa, Glenda and her husband Barry Alexia of Hermosa Beach, California, and Dale Grimmius and Marcia Newhall Roll of Grundy Center, Iowa; nine grandchildren: Andrea and her husband Dan Traeger, Tara and her husband Nick Liston, Michael and his wife Lindee Flater, Darren and his wife Alaina Flater, Rubyana Grimmius, Joben Grimmius, Adrianne Alexia, Yale Alexia, and Ian Alexia; three great-grandchildren: Brooke and Carter Liston, and Ryan Traeger; one sister: Shirley Blenderman and her husband G.K. of Des Moines, Iowa; brothers-in-law: Lloyd and his wife Marge Calton of Grundy Center, Iowa, Lyle and his wife Virginia of Missouri; sister-in-law: Marge Calton of Texas; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Louise; and his brother in law Doyle Calton.
