WELLSBURG - Anna De Vries, 96, of Wellsburg died Tuesday, Aug. 24, 2004, at the Presbyterian Village in Ackley. Funeral services were Friday, Aug. 27, at St. Peter's United Church of Christ, rural Wellsburg, with the Rev. Harold Miller officiating. Burial was at the church cemetery.

Anna was born Oct. 11, 1907, at home in rural Grundy County, near Wellsburg, to Frank and Peterje (Zwagerman) Finger. She attended rural country school in Grundy County. On Oct. 17, 1924, Anna was united in marriage to Herman De Vries at Ackley. After their marriage, the couple worked as hired hands on a farm south of Wellsburg for a number of years, and later farmed on various farms in Grundy County. Anna did cooking and housekeeping for others. During the 1940s, they moved to Wellsburg. Herman died May 13, 1978. In 1980, Anna moved to the Friendship Manor Apartments in Wellsburg, living there until 2003, when she moved to Presbyterian Village in Ackley. Anna was a member of St. Peter's United Church of Christ. She enjoyed cooking for others, watching the Chicago Cubs and was an Iowa Hawkeye fan.

Survivors include two daughters, Lorraine Boelts of Ackley and Pamela Fuller and husband Rodney of Wellsburg; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; five brothers, Peter, Henry, Ed, Dick and Fred Finger; five sisters, Maggie Kannegieter, Bertha Huebner, Rose Van Eschen, Mae Lindaman and Gertie Huebner.

Memorials may be directed to St. Peter's United Church of Christ.

Doyen-Abels Funeral Home of Wellsburg was in charge of arrangements.
