CONRAD - Lu Vern H. Freese, 65, of Conrad died Thursday, July 15, 2004, at the Marshalltown Medical and Surgical Center in Marshalltown. Funeral services will be Saturday, July 17, at 1:30 p.m. at the First Christian Reformed Church in Wellsburg with Pastor Tom Vos officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from 8 until 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
Lu Vern was born Jan. 24, 1939, in Marshalltown to Diederich and Ella (Meints) Freese. He graduated from Wellsburg High School in 1957. Lu Vern served in the National Guard from 1956 to 1964. On Nov. 29, 1968, he was united in marriage to Sue Coulter at Conrad. They farmed near Conrad. Lu Vern was a lifelong member of the First Christian Reformed Church, where he served as a deacon and elder on the church council.
Survivors include his wife, Sue, of Conrad; one brother, Darrell Freese and wife Sharon of Steamboat Rock; three nieces; and one nephew.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Doyen-Abels Funeral Home of Wellsburg is in charge of arrangements.
