ACKLEY—John Van Loh, 81, of Ackley, died Monday, Feb. 13, 2006, at the Allen Hospital in Waterloo. Funeral services were held Thursday, Feb. 16, at the Faith Presbyterian Church, rural Ackley, with the Rev. Allen McClure officiating. Burial was at the Faith Presbyterian Cemetery. The Sietsema Funeral Home in Ackley was in charge of arrangements.

John Marvin Van Loh was born Aug. 8, 1924, on the family farm near Wellsburg, the son of Menno and Henrietta (Krull) Van Loh. He attended the Flowing Well Country School in German Township. Following his education he worked on the family farm and served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was united in marriage to Dorothy Mary Evans in Steamboat Rock on Feb. 21, 1950. The couple farmed together until his retirement. John was an active member of the Faith Presbyterian Church where he served as a deacon and Elder Emeritus. He enjoyed fishing and gardening and especially spending time with his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy of Ackley; son Marvin (Ann) Van Loh of Gilbert; daughters Mary Jane and Rosemary Van Loh, both of Ackley; son Dennis (Kathy) Van Loh of Ackley; daughter Judy Van Loh of Iowa Falls; five grandchildren, Paul, Brandon (Sarah), Angelina, Johnathan and Todd Van Loh; three great-grandchildren, P. J., Kia-Marie and Alexis Van Loh; and two sisters, Helen Benning and his twin Everdena Arends, both of Ackley.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Johanna Mennenga and Esther Boyenga.
