Three Members of Huisman Family Married 172 Years
Wellsburg, Ia.--A total of 172 years of married life is the record attained by three members of the Huisman family, early residents of Grundy county. Friday Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Huisman of Wellsburg, are celebrating their fifty-eighth wedding anniversary; in May Mr. and Mrs. Harm Huisman of Bridgewater, S. D., will observe their fifty-seventh wedding anniversary, and Mr. and Mrs. John Tjaden of Wellsburg will celebrate their fifty-seventh wedding date in June.
J. B. Huisman and Harm Huisman are brothers, and Mrs. Tjaden is their sister.
All three couples were early residents in Grundy county, and all three marriages were performed in Wellsburg. The three couples spent the first few years of their married life in Wellsburg, and 35 years ago the Harm Huisman family moved to South Dakota.
The J. B. Huismans are celebrating their anniversary as their children gather at the family home during the afternoon and evening. Mr. Huisman is 82 years old, and Mrs. Huisman is 78. Both are in good health.
They are the parents of six children: Mrs. Renke Renken of Aplington, Mrs. Jack Fischer, Mrs. Earl Greany and Frank Huisman, all of Wellsburg, and Mrs. C. H. Evans of Leon. The oldest son, Meinet, died a few years ago.
Harm Huisman is a year and a half younger than his brother, John. They are the parents of ten living children, including Mrs. Dick Miller of Ackley; Mrs. Lena Benning of Iowa Falls; Bertha, who lives in Idaho; Meint, Ed, John, Mrs. Jennie Witt, Mrs. Anna Witt and Mrs. Dorothy Detterman, all living in South Dakota, and Fred, who resides in Washington.
The youngest of the family trio is Mrs. Tjaden, who is 75 years old. She has spent practically all her life in Wellsburg and vicinity.
The Tjadens have six children, all of whom live around this community. They are Mrs. Ben Peters, Mrs. Albert Meyer, Meint, Otta and Pearl, all of Wellsburg, and Mrs. S. L. Dilley of Aplington.
