Jefferson Bee, Jefferson, Greene, Iowa, USA Wednesday, January 16, 1918

Mr. Henry J. Hoover of the Jamaica locality, died at the hospital in Perry last Saturday night, where he was taken for an operation the middle of the week. Mr. Hoover's passing was a great surprise and shock to his many friends, among whom The Bée folks have been pleased to be included. He visited a week ago Thursday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Leo Kelley, and also was a business caller at The Bee office that day, seeming to be in his usual good health. He was the victim of an acute attack of appendicitis from the effects of which he was unable to rally. The funeral was held in Jefferson yesterday afternoon, at 1 o'clock, with services in charge of Rev. W. V. Wills after which interment was made at the Jefferson cemetery. Mr. Hoover was a native of west Washington township. His family, and other relatives hereabouts, have the sympathy of many friends in their bereavement.

Henry Joshua Hoover was born August 24, 1866, being past 51 years of age at death. He was wedded to Emma Tassell on October 22, 1887, to which union eleven children were born, ten of whom are living as follows: Mrs. Grace Kennedy, Mrs. Gertrude Kelley, Mrs. Alta St Peter, and Ora, Byrl, Vincent, Greta, Lloyd, Kenneth and Freda Hoover. Three sisters and one brother survive him, Mrs. Mary Adkins, of Bennett, Colorado; Mrs. Eliza Orange, of Jefferson; Mrs. Sarah Harmon, of Earl, Nebraska, and Mr. Wm. Hoover of Grand Junction.
