OBITUARY OF MRS. S. B. JAY
Mrs Sylvester Burton Jay a former resident of Plano was taken in death at the age of 94 years, Oct 20, 1946 at
Scranton, IA, where she had resided since 1939. Mrs. Jay suffered a fractured hip in 1944 and has been an invalid
ever since. On March 6, 1946 she had a stroke which was the direct cause of her death.
Her Husband preceded her in death in 1917 in Sandwich, as did a little son, Fred B. in 1885. She leaves to
mourn her passing, a daughter Mrs. Maude Jay Gallagher of Chicago who was with her constantly during her long
illness, a son Howard M. Jay of Palm Springs, Calif., a sister in California, a brother in Des Moines, IA; also
three grandsons all sons of Mrs. Gallagher, and three great grandchildren.
Services were held at Scranton on Tuesday, October 22 and also at the Cooper Funeral Home in Plano on Oct.
23rd with Dr. R. E. Simms of the Baptist church officiating, Mrs. Elmer Larson was the soloist and Mrs. R. E.
Simms the pianist. Burial took place in Fowler Grove cemetery. Relatives were in attendance from Chicago,
Aurora, Oswego, Shabbona, Hinckley, Sandwich and Plano
