Funeral Rites Held For Harry Gossage

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon, Oct. 23, in the Shninger chapel for HARRY GOSSAGE, of Jefferson.

The Rev. Elisworth L. Woods, pastor of Central Christian Church, officiated.

GLEN FARRELL sang “Beyond the Sunset” and the Lord’s Prayer. MRS. SHIRLEY WINEY accompanied him.

Pallbearers were ROBERT MILLIGAN, DOUGLAS SHRIVER, JAMES BRANDT, WM. PEARCE, WM, WINEY and CARROLL WHITE.

Interment was at the Jefferson Cemetery, with the Jefferson American Legion post in charge.

Harry Jerome Gossage, son of JEROME B. and MARY CONLEY GOSSAGE was born in Ottumwa, Sept. 2, 1890, and passed away at his home in Jefferson, Wednesday, Oct. 20, at the age of 64 years, one month, and 18 days.

He grew to manhood at Ottawa and at the age of 22 years was baptized in the First Baptist Church there.

Mr. Gossage enlisted in the army at Ottawa, and is a veteran of both World Wars I and II. After World War I he helped organized American Legion posts in Wisconsin, spending his spare time in the interest of the Legion. He was a member of the Floyd Brown post No. 11 of Jefferson and also of the 40 and 8, serving as Grand Chef de Gare of the state of Wisconsin in 1926.

He spent his whole life at sales promotion work; at the time of his illness was employed by the Deshler Broom factory of Deshler, Neb., with Texas territory. He was lived in Jefferson the last 3 ˝ years.

Preceding him in death are his parents, three brothers and three sisters.

Survivors include his wife, the former MAUDE E. DE LONG; two sisters, MRS. A. B. DUCKWORTH of Lancaster, Mo., and MRS, EARL MARTIN of Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho; one brother, G. C. GOSSAGE of Nampa, Idaho, several nieces and nephews, and other relatives.
