Mrs Estella Brandon

Estelle Marie Downes, daughter of George F and Mary E Downes, was born in Boston, Mass. With her parents, six sisters and two brothers she came to Rock Island, Ill. where her father, a contractor, built the Clock Tower on the island and the bridge to Davenport.

On March 11, 1873, she was united in marriage with George N Brandon. There were two children, George Frankin and Mabel, born to them. Her husband and son preceded her in death several years ago. Since that time she has made her home with her daughter, Mrs J K Johnson, Sr, who with J K Johnson, Jr, George Brandon, Jr and Rosamond Brandon, survive.

Grandmother Brandon was a member of the Methodist church, DAR WRC and Rebekahs, being the oldest member in Jefferson and a past noble grand in the latter order.

The funeral occurred Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Slininger chapel with the service by Dr Shenton of the M.E. church. The casket bearers were EA Milligan, Dr. DE Lyon, CG Cockerill, WA McDonald, LD Semple and SJ Sayers. Interment in the Jefferson cemetery.
