Jacob B. Ridenour was born in the state of Maryland Nov. 23, 1827, and died Aug. 31, 1916 at the home of his son Ernest near Mallard at the age of 88 years, 9 months, and 8 days. When a small boy, his parents moved to Cedar county, Iowa, where he resided until 1880, when he moved with his family to Greene county, and in 1895 he went to Palo Alto county to make his home with his son Ernest. He had been married three times and was the father of nine children. Two died in infancy; seven grew to manhood and womanhood: Melvin, Amanda, and Eva preceded him to the Great Beyond, while George W. of Lake City, William C. of Des Moines, Mrs. Alice Hopkins of Lenox, and Ernest G. of Mallard survive him. The funeral was held Friday afternoon, and interment made at Rochester, Iowa.
