Edward W. West, 64, of 5727 Golden Ct. NE, died Sunday evening, April 4, 1999, in Benton County along Interstate 280 following a courageous battle with many health aliments. Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday, Turner Chapel East, with Nick Longworth, chaplain at St. Luke's Hospital, officiating. Burial: Jefferson Cemetery, Jefferson. Friends may call at Turner Chapel East from 5 to 7 tonight and after 10 a.m. Wednesday. Graveside services: Thursday afternoon in Jefferson.

Edward was born April 28, 1934, in Jefferson, Iowa, the son of Merle and Gladys Outtrim West. He was an engineer at KCRG Television and Radio for many years, retiring from there in November 1998. He also had worked for WMT Radio's Muzak and the Iowa Highway Patrol as a dispatcher. He attended Iowa State Teachers College (now UNI). Ed was active in the Democratic Party and was a former chair of the Linn County Democratic Central Committee. He also enjoyed skydiving as a skydiving instructor and volunteered his technical expertise to the Cedar Rapids Community Theater (now TCR). Ed was very fond of jazz music as well.

He is survived by his sister, Patricia Watson of Scottsdale, Ariz.; a niece, Cinda Peralta-Ramos, a grandniece, Sascha, and grandnephew, Syler, all of Jackson Hole, Wyo. He is also survived by a special friend, Melissa Hubbard of Cedar Rapids.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his mother died in January 1999.
