OBITUARY

Sarah Elizabeth Holtom, daughter of Elijah and Elizabeth Holtom, was born in Warren county, Iowa, September 11, 1856, and due to a heart disease, departed this life in Churdan at her home on December 16, at the age of 76 years, 3 months and 6 days.

She had been in pour health for several years. No cause for alarm was realized, however, until she was confined to her bed about a week before her death.

She was the youngest of a family of thirteen. Her mother and father, Elizabeth and Elijah Holtom, four sisters and nine brothers preceded her in death.

In her youth she united with the Panora Baptist church. In 1915 her membership was transferred to the Churdan Baptist church.

She was united in marriage to Jesse Patrick on September 23, 1885. They made their home on a farm in Hardin township, Greene county, Iowa, remaining there until 1903, when she moved to Churdan where she resided until her death.

Her husband preceded her in death on April 19, 1923. To this union two children were born. Lillie Patrick Clipperton and Elizabeth Patrick Clipperton, both of Churdan. In the year 1926 she was united in marriage to I. I. Pierce.

She leaves to mourn her going her husband, two daughters, Mrs. Lillie Clipperton and Mrs. Elizabeth Clipperton, four grandchildren, Wayne Brody, Dale, Doris and Wilma Clipperton, several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

She was a loving wife and mother, living a Christian life and active in the church work and a faithful attendant until failing health prevented. We bow in humble submission to God who doeth all things well and say goodbye for the present to her whom we respected and admired.

Funeral services were conducted at the Baptist Church at 2:00 o'clock Monday afternoon by the pastor, Rev. Roy C. Longfellow. A mixed quartette from the church, Mrs. Alta Flack, Mrs. Niles Wittfoth, Dewey Flack and Rev. Longfellow, furnished the music, singing "When I Get to the End of the Way," "In the Garden," "Rock of Ages" and "The Old Rugged Cross," all requested by the family. Interment was made in the Churdan cemetery.
