JEFFERSON ?, JEFFERSON, IOWA - ? ?, 1923
A. T. FLACK AND PETER SABUS CLOSE EARTHLY CAREERS WITHIN THE PAST WEEK

Alfred Thomas Flack, son of Samuel and Rebecca Flack was born in Jones country, Iowa, on January 8, 1861, and departed this life on February 23, 1923, at the age of 62 years, 1 month and 15 days. In 1871 at the age of ten years he moved with his parents to Greene county, Bristol township. Afterward he and his wife establishing a home near his father, remaining there until four years ago when he moved to Churdan.

On February 28, 1883, he was united in marriage to Mary Luella Andrew. Had he lived until next Wednesday they would have spent 40 years together. To this union were born eleven children, all of whom are living except one. Mrs. Lydia C. Hurdle, of Swea City; Roy dying in infancy; Mrs. Laura R. Yeager; Ralph E.; Alta G. and Alva S. twins; Floyd W.; Mrs. Mary E. Wright; Dewey S.; and Miss Ruth N.; and Miss Ruby M., all of Churdan. Besides his wife and children he leaves to mourn nineteen grandchildren, one proceding him in death. One sister and five brothers, Mrs. Martha Andrew; Robert Flack and Richard Flack of Churdan; Salathiel Flack, of Jefferson; Samuel Flack, Dexter, Minne; and William Flack , Minneapolis, Minne.; also other relatives and a host of friends.

He was a friend indeed and to know him was to know of his thoughtfulness of others in need of help. Himself he talked of least and even in his last sickness few knew the seriousness of his illness because he complained so little and hardly talked of his condition to anyone. His last illlness covered about six months, but not of so serious a nature to even be bedfast until the last four days.

His heart was centered around his home and his family. In the younger years of his children he was interested in their enjoyments and concerned about their future prospects. Later when they were in homes of their own, still as interested and lending them a helping hand many times. It was his chief joy to have his sons and wives, daughters and husband, and their little ones around him in his home and not many days passed without some were there and many days when all a family of 39, were there in happy reunion. His children were all present the last few days to give tender care to him and he took notice of all and knew and talked with each always in an encouraging way. His last look on life was to see his devoted wife and children around his bedside.

Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Yearnd, of Perry a former pastor of the family at the Baptist church Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock, and the body laid to rest in the family lot in our beautiful cemetery. The choir sang two beautiful selections. In the Sweet Bye and Bye and Holy Spirit Faithful Guide. The lovely floral offerings were many and was one way used in expressing sympathy to the family in their deep sorrow. The church was filled and overflowing, showing the esteem in which Mr. Flack was held by the community.
