Alfred C. Ogren was born July 26, 1930 in Bristol Twp., Greene County, Iowa and died August 12, 1987 in Jefferson, Greene County, Iowa. He is buried in the Jefferson Cemetery. He was married to Beverly Joan Anderson.

Ogren death ruled self-inflicted

The death of Alfred (Fred) C. Ogren, 57, of Jefferson has been ruled a suicide, according to the Greene county sheriff's department.

Ogren, the owner of F & D Construction Company in Jefferson, died of mechanical asphyxiation, according to Greene county medical examiner Dr. Robert Burke, after being crushed by a payloader.

The death occurred Wednesday, August 12, at a gravel pit near Jefferson.

Ogren

Funeral services were held Saturday, August 15, from First United Methodist Church of Jefferson for Alfred (Fred) C. Ogren, 57 longtime Greene county resident and Jefferson businessman.

The Rev. Chrisa Ferguson, associate pastor of the church, officiated. Larry Dowd was soloist, with Helen Wilson as organist.

Casket bearers were Harvey Ganoe, W. J. Barrett, Dane Kious, Edwin Davis, Tom Bordenaro and Ernest Krieger. Interment was in Jefferson Cemetery.
Slininger-Rossow Funeral Homes of Jefferson and Grand Junction was in charge of services.

Alfred Carl Ogren, son of Carl & Iva Clark Ogren, was born July 26, 1930, on a farm in Bristol township, Greene county, one of a family of 6 children. He attended rural school in Dawson township and the Farlin school and graduated from Jefferson High School in 1947. Fred was baptized into the Farlin Church of Christ when he was a young man.

He joined the Iowa National Guard in September of 1947 and was a member of the 168th Infantry, attaining the rank of sergeant first class at the time of his discharge in 1967.

Fred was united in marriage with Beverly Joan Anderson on October 2, 1949, at the Church of Christ in Farlin. They were the parents of 3 sons.

Fred worked at Friendly Food Grocery Store in Jefferson and later at Seela Hardware. He also was employed by Fred Farquhar Tiling Company until he started working for Ferguson-Diehl Company in the spring of 1950.

In 1961 Fred became a junior partner in F & D Construction and bought the company in 1972. It became a family corporation in 1976. The company had been a member of the Associated General Contractors of Iowa since 1930.

Fred was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Jefferson. He was a former city councilman and had served as mayor pro tem. He belonged to B.P.O.E. Lodge No. 2306 and was active in the Jaycees for many years. Fred belonged to Lakeside Golf Club.

He died August 12, 1987, near Jefferson. He was preceded in death by his father; a son, Craig, in 1975; a sister, Norma Wagers; a niece, Cynthia Ogren; and a brother-in-law, Jim Smith.

He is survived by his wife Beverly; their sons, Paul and his wife Vicki and Steve, all of Jefferson; 2 grandchildren, Adam and Kathryn; his mother, Mrs. Iva Ogren of Jefferson; a brother, Duane, also of Jefferson; 3 sisters, Shirley (Mrs. Deane) Dresback of Winterset, Joan (Mrs. Jim) Rowles of Grand Junction and Mildred Smith of Poway, California; a brother-in-law, Jack Wagers of Moose Lake, Minnesota; and several nieces and nephews.
