MRS. BAKER OBITUARY

Dorcas Azalea Brown, daughter of William W. and Ella W. Brown, was born in Jasper County, Missouri, Oct. 4, 1877 and passed away at the Hamburg hospital, March 1, 1950, at the age of 72 years, 4 months and 24 days. When she was a child, her family moved to Atchison County, Missouri, and located in the neighborhood of Sunny Slope school, where she grew in womanhood.

On April 3, 1902, she was united in marriage to Chesney C. Baker. To this union were born two children, Ella A. and Chandler C. Baker. Mr. and Mrs. Baker lived on a farm in the home community for many years and in about 1930 they moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma, where their son lived. A few years later they returned to Hamburg, where Mr. Baker passed away some three years ago. Following the death of her husband, Mrs. Baker continued to live at their home on Argyle Street in Hamburg.

Early in the morning of Feb. 27, Mrs. Baker suffered an accident in which she was severely burned. She was taken to the Hamburg hospital, where she received treatment and care, but the seriousness of her injury, together with her frail health and advanced age, very little hope was held for her recovery and she passed away about 11 p.m. Wednesday evening.

Mrs. Baker was the only daughter of seven children. Three brothers died in early childhood and three brothers, Jim, Lloyd and Ezra, spent their entire lives in this community, preceding their sister in death. Survivors are two children, Mrs. C.D. Wright of Hamburg and Chandler C. Baker of Cushing, Oklahoma, four grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Early in life Mrs. Baker united with the Mt. Carmel Presbyterian church, southeast of Hamburg. She remained loyal to her faith and to her church throughout her life. Mrs. Baker lived a quiet life, was a good wife, a devoted mother and a sincere friend.

Funeral services were held Saturday, March 4 at 2:30 p.m. at Johnson Funeral Home, conducted to Rev. C.C. Latta. Burial was made in the Mt. Olive cemery.
