Iowa, The Hamburg Reporter, Jun. 19, 1930, page 1

A. F. Shuey, a resident of Hamburg for many years, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. John Hupp, at Council Bluffs Saturday evening, June 14, after an extended illness. About three years ago he suffered a stroke of paralysis and has been virtually an invalid ever since. Shortly after the death of his wife a little over a year ago, Mr. Shuey went to Council Bluffs to live with his daughter, and during that time his health had gradually become worse.

He lived in Hamburg many years, where he followed his trade as a cement wworker and has done work of this kind for many of his friends here, being active in that line until he suffered a stroke. Mr. Shuey was an honest worker, a conscientious-citizen and an earnest worker. His pleasant disposition won him many friends and he enjoyed their associations.

Alonzo F. Shuey was born in Polk County, Iowa, December 7, 1955 and passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. John Hupp, in Council Bluffs, Iowa, Saturday, June 14, 1930, aged 73 years, 6 months and 7 days. He was united in marriage to Abigail Reynolds on December 28, 1879, and to this union two children were born, Mrs. Floria Hupp of Council Bluffs, and Freddie Shuey, who died on September 24, 1903, at the age of nineteen years. Mrs. Shuey preceded him in death December 25, 1928. Mr. Shuey was a member of the Church of Christ at Hamburg for many years, uniting with church as a young man. He was a faithful worker and attendant of that congregation until his health failed about three years ago. He leaves to mourn his passing the daughter with whom he was living at the time of his death, a granddaughter also of Council Bluffs; a sister, Mrs. Hallie Irving, and a brother, James Shuey, both of Norton, Kansas.

The body was brought to Hamburg Saturday night, where it lay in state at the Johnson Funeral Home until the hour of the funeral. The last rites were conducted at the Church of Christ on Monday afternoon at 2 p.m., Rev. D.N. Gillett officiating. Interment was made in the Mt. Zion cemetery.
