WESTON Edward BRUCE

Weston Edward Bruce, son of John Jacob Bruce and Ada (Strait) Bruce, was born at Hamburg, May 5, 1909 and died at the Community hospital on Jan. 8, 1960 at the age of 50 years, eight months, and 3 days.

He spent most of his life in the Hamburg community with the exception of about one year when he lived in Nebraska City. He graduated from Hamburg High School in May 1927, after which he attended Peru State Teachers College.

In September 1928, he started his work with the local post office, beginning as a substitute and advancing to carrier, postal clerk, and to the assistant postmaster's position in the Summer of 1953, which he held at the time of his death.

On July 8, 1936 he was united in marriage with Fleta L. Hunt. To this union, three daughters, and one son were born.

Early in life he accepted Christ as his saviour. He was an active member of the First Baptist Church.

He served in the Navy during World War II for a period of 18 months.

He was a member of all the Independant Order of Odd Fellows, the American Legion, the Kiwanis Club and the Iowa Postal Supervisors. He was the Past Grand Patriarch of the Grand Encampment of Iowa. He took an active part in the work of the local Boy Scout organizations for several years until his health failed.

He is survived by his wife, Fleta; four children, Barbara Stanley, Sidney, Carolyn Zuck, Ankeny, Keith Bruce, Iowa City, and Karen Bruce of Hamburg; one brother, Frank J. Bruce of San Diego, California; three grandchildren and a number of other relatives. Preceding him in death were his parents and two brothers.

Funeral services were held Sunday, January 10, at 2:30 p.m. at the First Baptist Church with the Rev. Joe Wallace officiating. Interment was at Mt. Zion cemetery. Rash Funeral Home was in charge of services.
