R.A. CLayton Died At His Home Sat

Ralph Clayton, for many years engaged in the banking and insurance business in Hamburg, passed away quietly at his home Saturday evening. He had not been feeling well during the day and after supper was resting on the davenport, when without warning he passed from this life.

Ralph A Clayton was born February 18, 1881, in Atchison County, Missouri, the son of Robert and Clara Clayton. He passed away at his home on December 2, 1944. His parents, sister Esther, and brother Earl preceded him in death.

Following his graduation from the Quincy Business College he entered the Merchants Exchange Bank and remained there for twenty years, later assisting in the organization of the Iowa State Bank.

On November 2, 1916, he was united in marriage to Leora Roberson, and to this union was born Ralph Junior, who passed away at the age of 2 years and 9 months. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church and the Masonic Lodge.

He was always civic minded and worked for the betterment of the community as treasurer of the school board for twenty-five years and a member of the city council for several years. His life has been devoted to banking and insurance, through these he made a great many friends. He treated all with fair and just treatment. His standing in the insurance field was very high and he was an authority in this line. In addition to these activities, he was owner and manager of several farms.

He is survived by wife and one nephew, Bobby McKissick, of Coleman, Texas. Funeral services were held at the Johnson Funeral Home Tuesday afternoon, conducted by the Rev. Henry Teele, and interment was in the Hamburg Cemetery. Nephews acted as pall bearers.
