Gerald D. Smith, son of Kimber and Rose Cowles Smith was born Feb. 2, 1910 at Riverton. He died Nov. 3, 1993 at Grape Community Hospital at the age of 83 years, 9 months and 1 day.
He attended school in Nebraska and finished in Hamburg.

He was united in marriage to Velma Richardson on Aug. 31, 1935 at Hamburg. To this union two daughters were born. Gerald and his wife farmed many years in the Hamburg area. In 1965, they moved to Hamburg, where he did carpenter work.
He was a member of the Baptist Church and after marriage transferred to the First United Methodist Church of Hamburg.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Walter and Carl. He is survived by his wife, Velma; daughters Sharilyn Trivelpiece of Hamburg, Geraldine Owen of Farragut; six grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren; three sisters, Dorothy Smith, Geddes, S. Dak., Lea Sterling, Papillion, Nebr, Coretta Jo Whitten, Nebraska City, Nebr; nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral services were held Nov. 5, at the Rash Funeral Home with the Rev. Andrew Rubenking officiating. Interment was in Mt. Zion Cemetery.
