James H. Cowles

RIVERTON – Services were held Dec. 11 at the Riverton Methodist church for James Harvey Cowles, 82, a lifetime Fremont county resident who died Dec. 7 after a lingering illness. The Rev. Ernest Stewart conducted rites, with burial in Mount Zion cemetery.

Mr. Cowles was a barber for many years in the Riverton vicinity. He married Mattie Elizabeth Chaney in 1886, and she died in 1937. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Rose Smith of Hamburg and Mrs. Lena Story of Laramie, Wyoming; two half-sisters, Mrs. Herbert Jones of Faragut, Mrs. Fred Beam of Omaha and Mrs. Ora Hatten of Fremont, Neb.; a half-brother, G. W. McKissick of Beatrice., Neb.; 11 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
