"First Death in Pioneer Circle"
The Tabor Beacon, July 28, 1852

On May 20, 1853, James, the oldest son of, Mr. and Mrs. William J. Gates, died at Civil Bend and was brought to Tabor for burial in a private plot.

The body in all probability was at an early date removed to the cemetery.

The first burial in the cemetery was Lucelia, the infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. S. H. Adams. Lucellia died June 18, 1854 at the age of 1 year, 2 mos, and 18 days. It may be that Lucellia was the first child born in the town, but so far, as we have been able to find no records of the first birth have been found.
