“William Scoles Dies”

William Scoles was born in Fremont County, Iowa, April 26, 1867 and grew to manhood here. He was united in marriage to Effie McCrory, Feb., 26, 1890 at Riverton, Iowa, and to this union five children were born. A son, Cecil passed away in 1933 and a daughter, Mrs. Willis Cook, Sr., passed away in 1935. Surviving him are Floyd of Oto, Iowa; Mrs. Tom Mastin and Mrs. Ray Coon of Sioux City.

Mr. and Mrs. Scoles moved to Woodbury County in 1902, where they farmed until 1938, when they retired and moved to Leeds. They lived there until the death of Mrs. Scoles in 1948. Since that time, Mr. Scoles had lived with his son, Floyd at Oto, Iowa, where he passed away Feb. 4, 1950 at the age of 82 years, 9 months and 9 days. He is also survived by six grandchildren, three great grandsons, five brothers, namely; O. P. Scoles of Lawton, K. M. Scoles of Red Oak; Albert Scoles, Dearborn, Missouri: Chas. Scoles, Mead, Nebraska; and Frank Scoles of Mead, Nebraska; five sisters, Mrs. Minnie Hannan of Anthon: Mrs. Della Bennett of Shenandoah; Mrs. Nora Wright of Bedford; Mrs. Mina Meek of Omaha, and Mrs. Rose Haskins of Lincoln, his age step-mother, Mrs. Mary Scoles of Riverton, and many friends.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Feb. 8 at 1:30pm at the home of his son Floyd at Oto, Iowa, and burial was made in memorial Park Cemetery at Sioux City.

Relatives from this community attending the funeral included; Mr. and Mrs. Mike Weisenberger, Mr. and Mrs. Geo. McCrory, Mrs. Arnold Prather, Mr. and Mrs. Don Graham, Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Scoles and Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Scoles, Mrs. Everett Schaeffer, Mrs. D. C. Scoles, Robert Schaeffer and Mr. and Mrs. Richard Scoles.
