Grandpa Kamerer departed this life Saturday at 12:30 after a severe illness of a few days. The funeral services were held from the residence of his daughter, Mrs. Rhodes Addy, to the Reformed Church Monday forenoon. The deceased was born in Westmoreland county, Penna, June 1, 1819, being 79 years 9 months 17 days old. He was baptized into the Reformed Church at four years of age, of which church he was always a faithful and conscientious member.

He was united in marriage to Miss Salome Bussard August 25, 1844 and lived in wedded life with her 51 years until 1895 when his wife preceded him. To this union were given five sons and five daughters all of whom are now living and were present at his bedside as he departed, except one son who died in infancy. The sons George, Michael, James and Joseph live in town or vicinity. Three daughters, Mrs. Rhodes Addy, Mrs. Charles Gee and Mrs. S. F. Adams live here. The two other daughters, Mrs. Edgar Faust, Shenandoah, and Mrs. John Eastman, of Hot Springs, South Dakota, came in response to messages.

He has also 37 grandchildren living. He moved to Dubuque county in 1851, and from there to his farm northwest of town in 1875, moved to town in 1890. Since the death of his wife, he has resided with his daughter, Mrs. Rhodes Addy. Father Kamerer has three sisters who still survive him, two of whom are older than himself.

The church was tastefully decorated with drapery and floral tributes. The funeral was largely attended by friends who had come to pay respect to the many virtues of the man whose daily life had been an inspiration for a higher living. Rev. Harrington delivered an impressive sermon from Job 14:14: "If a man die shall he live again". After which the remains were viewed and followed by a large cortege to the Protestant cemetery.

The pallbearers were his four sons and two grandsons, William and John Kamerer.
