John Alberson Dies Wedneday Evening
Lived in Hamburg 56 Years

John Alberson, one of Hamburg's earliest settlers, and "Marshal of the town for more than thirty-five years, passed away at his home on Wednesday evening after a three days illness from heart failure.

John Alberson was born in Clarion, Pa., March 6, 1853, and had reached the age of 68 years, 6 months and 29 days at the time of his death. He was married to Sarah Harris, on December 15th, 1879 and she passed to the other world just a year and a month from the time of her husband's death. To the union were born two sons, Enoch and Blair, and four daughters, Mrs. Bert Brown, Mrs. Joe McKean, Mrs. Carl Zimmerman and Mrs. George Miller. He is also survived by his brothers, Will and Duke, and sisters, Mrs. J. M. Stauffer of this place and Mrs. J. T. Moreman of Kansas City. The funeral services will be held from the home Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock, conducted by Rev. D. W. Conner, pastor of the Christian Church.

Mr. Alberson was held in high esteem by all who knew him, and as an officer always did his duty. He doubless has a record not equaled by any man in this section in that he served as marshal off and on for more than thirty-five years, one time being in office for about twenty years without a break. When he came to Hamburg with his parents in the fall of 1865 Hamburg was not much of a place, there only being a few houses built at the time. He use to go swimming over on Argyle Street between D and F streets, when that location was a lake. He enjoyed telling of his experiences here in an early day and was as well versed in the happenings of the country as anyone. In the death of John Alberson we have lost an honored and respected citizen.
