Joseph R. Cromwell, Well Known Resident Of City, Dies Today.

Joseph Richard Cromwell, 84 resident of Pine Bluff for more than half a century, died today at the home of his son, Joseph R. Cromwell Jr.
Mr. Cromwell, who was widely known in Pine Bluff and vicinity, had been in failing health for more than a year, but his condition had been considered serious for only the past three weeks.

Born February 22, 1863, in Sidney, Iowa, Mr. Cromwell was educated in his native city, where he made his home until he was 21 years old. He migrated to Fort Reno, Okla., where he lived for two years before coming to Pine Bluff in the early Nineties.

Upon his arrival here, he engaged with his brothers, the late Tom and Hardin Cromwell, in the operation of the Arlington Bar, near Union Station, where he continued in business until 1917. In 1918 Mr. Cromwell began work as superintendent of the feed mill of the Riley Feed Manufacturing company, continuing to be connected with that company until the feed business was discontinued in 1940.
Mr. Cromwell was a member of Trinity Episcopal church and a former member of the Order of Elks. He was an enthusiastic sportsman and was well-known in hunting and fishing circles here. He was a former member of Drake's Landing Hunting Club and the Black-Jack Club.
His wife, the former Miss Mary Dorian. died in Pine Bluff in 1920.

In addition to his son, Mr. Cromwell leaves a grandson, J.R. Cromwell III of Pine Bluff; a sister, Mrs. F.J. Lamb, of Sidney, Iowa and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held tomorrow at 4 p.m. from the chapel of Ralph Robinson and Son mortuary, with the Rev. T.F. Devlin, rector of Trinity church, officiating, followed by burial in Bellwood cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Henry McMillan, Sam Williamson, J.E. Clifford, Robert D. Cox. R.E. Sullivant, Lara Hutt and Him McLellan, Honorary pallbearers are Thurman Louthan, Walter Ryland, George B. Whear. C.P. Lee, Claude Clegg, V.D. Webb, Adolph Bahlay, Joe Meyer, Leo Andrews, Hugh Peterson, Sam Williamson Sr., W.W. Ritchie, Merle Smith and J.W. Matthews
