I, Samuel Bartholomew of the County of Fremont and State of Iowa, being of sound mind and memory, and considering the uncertainty of this frail and transitory life, do therefore make, ordain, publish and declare this to be my last Will and Testament, that is to say:
After all my lawful debts and funeral expenses are paid and discharged, the residue of my estate, real and personal, I give, bequeath and dispose as follows, to wit: to my beloved wife Catharine all my land and personal property, to do with as she thinks proper, to sell the real estate and dispose of it in any way she wishes, and to convert the property to her own use and benefit and do with the same as she thinks best. To my beloved children I will nothing.
Likewise, I make, constitute and appoint my said wife, Catharine Bartholomew to be executor of this my last will and testament, hereby revoking all former wills by me made.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto subscribed my name and affixed my seal this sixth day of October in the year Eighteen hundred and fifty three.

The above written instrument was subscribed by Samuel Bartholomew in our presence and acknowledged by him to each of us; and he at the same time published and declared the above instrument to be his last will and testament, and we at the testator's request, and in his presence, have signed our names as witnesses thereto.
