FREMONT COUNTY IOWA WILLS 31 May 1888 Daniel Whetstone

(Although in the index, and in most places on the page the name is spelled Whetstone, there are
several places the name is mentioned where it is spelled Whetsone. The Fremont County
Cemetery Book lists a number of Whetstone burials, Daniel included. Also some of the words are
written so small that it is difficult to know for sure just what the words are. CM) This is not my
family.

I, Daniel Whetstone of Hamburg Fremont County Iowa, of sound mind and memory do make this
my last will and testament.

First, Whereas my son Joseph E. Whetstone is owing me the sum of Eleven hundred and five
dollars for which I hold his notes. My daughter, Amanda M. Scott is owing me the sum of Six
hundred dollars, and my grandson Rolla Cox is owing me the sum of one hundred and fourteen
dollars for which I hold his notes, and my granddaughter Edith E. Ackerman is owing me the sum
of three hundred dollars for which I hold her note.

Second, I will that my Executor herein named have control over and power to collect the interest
and also have power to renew the notes above described in case they are about to outlaw and to
see that the same are kept from being outlawed and to pay the interest when collected, to my wife
Rachel Whetstone for her use and disposal as she sees fit and at the death of my wife Rachel
Whetstone, the principal to go to each of my children and grandchildren to the amount of the sums
which said notes are given, by them forever. Provided however in case my wife has not sufficient
property to maintain herself then my executor is to collect enough from the makers of above
described notes to maintain her pro___, and at the death of my said wife the amount of the
principal remaining due shall go to them respectfully as above set forth, the amount to each
remaining due on their said note or notes.

Third, I will that any Executor at the death of my wife Rachel Whetstone pay to my grand children
Hiram E. Whetstone and Ovelette(?) L. Whetstone the sum of five dollars cash.

Fourth, I will that my Executor at the death of my wife Rachel Whetstone pay to my grandson Rolla
Cox the sum of one hundred and eighty six dollars.

Fifth, I will that my wife Rachel Whetstone have the balance of my real and personal estate and do
with the same as she deems meet during her natural life, and at the death, in case there is any
property left her by me, it is my will that the same shall go to my surviving children to their heirs and
assigns forever, provided however that the money described in the first statement is to be divided
as therein specified.

Furthermore if any or either of the heirs attempt to set aside this will they are to be cut off from
receiving any property herein set forth.

I hereby appoint as executors of this my last will and testament H. F. Brumback, of Hamburg, Iowa,
he having by my request consented to act as such. In witness whereof I have signed sealed
published and declared this as my last will and testament at Hamburg, Iowa on this 31st day of May
