Here are some obituaries and death dates

HAMPTON, Ia — Ben Swanson, 86, died Sunday [October 11, 1959] at the Lutheran Hospital in Hampton. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Greenfield Funeral Home. The Rev. John Fritzmeier will officiate. Burial will be in the Hampton Cemetery. Born Jan. 23, 1873, in Mjellby, Sweden, he came to the U. S. in 1891. He was married to Helena Johnson, Dec. 7, 1896. They had lived in Franklin and Cerro Gordo counties 57 years. They lived on a farm south of Clear Lake before moving to Chapin 32 years ago. Mrs. Swanson died Aug. 14. Surviving are a daughter Mrs. Eugene Ewens, Hampton; two sons, Frank, Clear Lake; Edwin, Grand Meadows, Minn., 14 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren and a brother, August, Wataga, Ill.

HAMPTON, IA -Services for Eugene Ewens, 78, who died Saturday [May 4, 1974] at his home, will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Vogel Funeral Home; Masonic services at 7:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home; burial in Hampton Cemetery; survivors include his wife, Nell; a son, Russell of Harahan, La.: three daughters, Mrs. D. D. Wilford of Sioux City, Mrs. Inez Jemskie of Lindenhurst, Ill., and Mrs. Lois Lowery of Zion, I11.

R. E. 'Swede' Ewens, a retired estimator for several large construction companies and an avid motorclyclist died at his Harahan residence on Tuesday, May 16, 2006 at 1:07 A.M. He was 88 years young. Beloved husband for 60 years of Catherine 'Kay' O'Donnell Ewens and father of Judy and husband Ron Hof, Carol and husband Jerry Roule, Holly and husband Dan Busse and son Mark and wife Jolie Ewens. Brother of Muriel Wilford of Sioux City, IA, Inez Gemskie of Ingleside, IL and Lois and husband Bob Johnson of Missouri Valley, IA. Son of the late Eugene and Nell Swanson Ewens, and preceded in death by infant son, Roger Eugene Ewens. Also survived by 12 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and another due in November. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Funeral Services from the Jefferson home of Tharp-Sontheimer-Tharp, 1600 N. Causeway Blvd. at 43rd St., Metairie, LA on Thursday, May 18, 2006 at 10:00 AM with Msgr. Frank Giroir officiating. Visitation on Thursday, May 18, 2006 from 9:00 AM until service time. Interment will follow at Garden of Memories Cemetery at a later date. In Lieu of flowers; donations can be made to Cancer Crusaders, 1117 Homestead Ave., Metairie, LA. 70005
