George H. Stakes was born in January 1832 in Ohio and married Mary J. Hampson on July 31, 1868 in Fairfield, Jefferson County, Iowa. In the 1880 census, he is enumerated in Centerville, Appanoose County, Iowa and also with his wife and sons in her mother's household in Fairfield. They were divorced in Jefferson County, Iowa in January 1881, the next year. Mary J. Hampson Stakes died on April 9, 1889. She was born September 6, 1848 and is buried in the Evergreen Cemetery in the Hampson plot in Fairfield, Iowa.

George continued to live and work as a shoemaker in Centerville, Appanoose County, Iowa. He died on/or was buried on January 10, 1917. He is buried in a single grave in the Oakland cemetery in Centerville.

I am not related to this family but was trying to establish the connection to Franklin County, Iowa, which I could not establish. I could never locate this family in Franklin County, Iowa (only Wapello, Jefferson and Appanoose counties).
