John Bonte was born on the 23rd of March, 1857 at Diel, Germany and died on the 5th of September, 1918 in Alexander.

On the 26th of January, 1882 he was united in marriage to Miss Engel Anna Blau to which 9 children were born, four of whom preceded their father in death in early life. The five children that remain are: Rev. George Bonte of Ackley; Frank, Theodore and Mrs. Clara Harms of Alexander and Mrs. Minnie Schulte of Thor.

The deceased came to America in 1884 and lived first at Chapin, later near Alexander and for the last nine years in Alexander. On the 8th of May, 1896 he became a member of the Reformed church and has since been a faithful worker.

He reached the age of 61 years, 5 months and 12 days. There remains to mourn his departure, a sorrowing wife; three sons; two daughters; two brothers in Germany and 1 sister near Alexander.

Funeral services were held Sunday and interment was made in the Alexander Cemetery.
